Meet Our Team: 30 Seconds with Travis Okimoto

Where were you born?

I was born and raised in San Jose, CA but I’ve lived in Hawaii since 2004.

What is your education background?

I went to UH Manoa and got my BA in International Business and Marketing in Spring ‘09. I’d also like to include my time working as a sales/event planner for a marketing and PR agency where I learned the rules of engagement for public relations.

What do you love about photography?

Photography to me is the study of light! It’s an endless study and one I intend to pursue ’til the day I die. I’ve been a student of the arts since I was a kid, and never understood all the principals of art that were being ingrained in me until I matured. It’s only in the heat of the moment that I feel my mind racing to find the best compositions, lighting angles, and “feels,” and that’s when I realize that I was meant for this. Nowadays, it’s pure passion that drives me.

What are you up to these days?

Currently I’m studying masterclasses on photo editing post production and also practicing with my drone to keep my skills polished. Since we can’t do events anymore, I’m always trying to diversify my skill sets so my photography business can be even more commercial oriented. Aside from portraits, website photos and media projects, I’d like to use my skills to help businesses prosper in these difficult times.

Share an interesting fact about yourself

I used to play hockey and I used to drift in mountain passes like Initial D. I was also a black belt candidate in Tae Kwon Do. Lastly, after all my years working for the liquor industry, I’ve become allergic to alcohol and proud to have kicked drinking out of my life! Therefore, if you want to bribe me, it’ll have to be with food not drink!
